I need to start story boarding this idea now and planning it out well so that it is easy to follow which will make it easier to make.

Animation

In class we have been watching some animations to inspire us and to help us come up with some of our own ideas. I especially enjoyed the Coldplay one which was very creative, interesting and fun to watch. I have been thinking about my own animation and have a couple of ideas to think about and build on. I'm very excited to start forming these ideas a bit more. I have been looking at some animations at home on Vimeo and youtube and have found a few good ones that have helped me look at some different styles. I am leaning towards istop motion a lot more than animation-ish. I am leaning towards doing istop motion because I find it a lot more fun and more interesting and easier than animation-ish. Whilst thinking of ideas I am trying to think of ones that would be more suited to istop motion but if I come up with a good one that will look better in animation-ish then I will probably use animation-ish instead. I'm very excited for this unit and I look forward to working on my animation.

Bouncing Ball

This is the first activity that we did in animation-ish. We made a ball bounce along a road! We drew the ball at different stages in the foreground and then played it on a loop so it looked like it was continuously bouncing. I then added in the road so it looked like the ball was bouncing along a road.

Walking Man with Darren Criss

This is my Walking Man with Darren Criss' head on it. I chose this photo because it looked funny and it was easy to cut the head out. First, I saved the photo and then opened it in Photoshop. I used the tools and techniques we learnt last term to do this. I deleted the background by selecting his head with a circle selecting tool and the pressing; shift + command + i. I then deleted the background and saved his head so I could open it in animation-ish. I then opened it in animation-ish and shrunk the head to a size that would fit on the draw head. I copied this onto every frame and then I had a walking Darren Criss! (:

Hello My Name Is...

This is my face saying: Hello my name is Charli. We worked on this in class a lot. I explained how we did this activity in a recent blog post, but this is the actual end product. I don't think it looks much like I'm saying Charli. But I think the rest is ok.

Hello my name is....

Today in class we worked on our faces and making them say: "Hello, my name is...". This is an enjoyable task and I'm having fun with it! I've almost finished mine, I just think it might be a bit hard to see that I'm saying "Charli" at the end, but that won't be too hard to fix, I'll work on that when I have got a bit of free time at the library. I also got my marks back for my photoshop work today and I am very happy with what I got! I'm looking forward to seeing how my work in this unit turns out!

Walking Man!

This is my walking man that I completed in class. To make this, we first had to save the picture of the different stages of the walking and then import that into the background of animationish. Then, we drew a black dot above his head so that we could place the next image in the centre every frame. After we had done this, we duplicated the frame and moved the next image under the black dot, and did this until we got to the last image. Then we started tracing in the foreground. We traced every picture in the different frames (but in the foreground) and eventually, we had a walking man. But it wasn't quite complete yet. We then had to put shadows on the man so that you could tell which arm and leg were which. The shadows show the back leg/arm. I really enjoyed this task and can't wait to move on!

Animation

The past few lessons we have been working on and talking about animationish. Animationish is very fun but can be hard at times. I am enjoying working on it so far. We created a walking man and are now making ourselves say "hello, my name is...", by taking photos of each sound in photo booth, importing them into the background of animationish and tracing our faces to make it look like we're saying that phrase. I have completed my face and I only have a couple of things to touch up which shouldn't take too long.

angryalien.com has a lot of good examples of limited animation. Limited animation is where they just move the eyes, mouth or arms and leave everything else still, creating the look that it is animated and moving, when really only parts of it are moving. Disney films are a good example of full animation, where they make everything move and make it all look real, though it is in a cartoon form.

I'm looking forward to working a bit more with animationish and then moving on to iStop motion!
